GTT will be the UK’s largest waste to renewable fuel facility, due to commence production in 2025. The facility will combine proven technologies to recycle used tyres into renewable drop-in fuels that can be blended into diesel and petrol, displacing fossil fuel equivalents.
Renewable fuel demand is supported worldwide by regulatory frameworks and increases in the use of waste-based renewable fuels is supported by legislation globally.
The plant will use two established technologies, pyrolysis and hydroprocessing, to process mulched waste tyres into development fuels and chemicals including recovered Carbon Black (rCB) which can be used to manufacture renewable tyres and other renewable chemicals.
GTT has been developed as a circular economy, stopping waste tyres from entering landfills and instead using them to recycle metal, create renewable fuels, new tyres and other components.
GTT is owned by Greenergy, an established fuel supplier and Europe’s largest manufacturer of biodiesel from waste at three sites located at Teesside, Immingham and Amsterdam.
